"Exit Fo[u]r" Track No. 4
I haven't been diagnosed with insomnia. I do have trouble falling asleep from time to time though.
My mind races. I start to free fall. Each thought is like a ping pong ball bouncing around and it’s so hard to catch them all.
Sometimes my arm even starts to fall asleep before I do.
Submitting yourself to sleep can be scary stuff, and sometimes the things we thought would help us, like counting sheep, turn into something quite the opposite.
Kinda like growing up.
That period of time after high school is definitely a pivotal time in our lives. Some of us go off to college, others to a trade, or the military, and others yet into other fields. We’re one step closer to being the best version of ourselves, but still have such a long way to go. We’re at a crossroads.
One foot in the real world and the other still tied to our roots. So many things we still have yet to prove, but we do just fine.
We’re human, we’re growing, we’re getting hurt, and we’re learning how to heal. Life is a journey, an adventure, a test. Life is unfair.
Life is beautiful.
One of my biggest takeaways so far is that it’s okay to fuck up... as long as we learn from it... as long as we hold ourselves up to a higher standard moving forward. We all stumble, and we all fall down, but that’s the point. What we do with the cards we’re dealt is what defines our character.
Take on each trial with a grateful heart and a spirit of perseverance.
Chase the bitter with lime.
LYRICS
The harder that I try, I just can't seem to collect my thoughts at night
And my arm falls asleep before I can even shut my eyes
That's right, the sheep can bite
As of today, I'm pretty close, but not there yet
One foot in the waves, the other left on deck
So much gum I have left to chew and so many things I still have yet to prove
But until I do, well I'll be just fine
I'll chase the bitter with lime
And maybe one day down the lane, I won't get rusted by the rain anymore, no
And I won't make the same mistakes, like getting sunburn on a windy beach day
No way, no way
No way Jose
As of today, I'm pretty close, but not there yet
One foot in the waves, the other left on deck
So much gum I have left to chew and so many things I still have yet to prove
But until I do, well I'll be just fine
I'll chase the bitter with lime
